Heres a very pretty angel from the cemetery in Hattiesburg. If you click on the photo it should go to a larger version. Theres an even larger version available, and the only reason I mention that is the wonderful detail in the sculpture. She's just beautiful.

She is in a locked and gated mausoleum or she wouldn't be in such great shape. Time, weather and vandals are hard on statuary, and this one has some fragile details.

I love funerary art from days gone by - so much care went into the statues and memorials. People don't seem to do that much anymore, though I have seen some interesting modern memorials in a cemetery in Coleman, Tx.

John Deere Tractors and all. While that may be more representative of the actual lives lived by the departed, I still prefer the romantasized artwork from the 1800's and early 1900's. The old cemetery in Natchez has many fine works.

What Kind of Cross are You?

You are the Mexican Cross: This ceramic cross is hand crafted and painted in Mexico. Its bright colors make it appropriate for the kitchen or a child's bedroom, reminding us of the joy of the resurrection.

My many musings are currently centered on how to get this all set up. I am working, slowly, on a logo. Unlike my eldest daughter, computer graphics are not my strong point. I will eventually be able to do it, but it will take time.

I have a tribute to write for a 9/11 victim, as I have joined the 2,996: A Tribute to the Victims of 9/11

About the project:

The 2,996 Project
The idea is simple, but powerful: have a special tribute for each victim of 9/11, with each tribute being created by a different blogger.
We started 2,996 Project to coordinate the creation of the tributes, and that's what this site is all about. Here you can sign up to make a tribute yourself, on your blog (we'll randomly assign a victim to you). You can also browse or search through either the victims that have already been assigned, or those that have not -- and you can get pointers to more information on all of them.

I will be honoring Karen J Klitzman, and I hope to work up something nice enough to do justice to her. So, check back!
